Judeo-Arabic

There are two sections to this area. The General Section is recommended to most readers interested in poplar literature, Judaic Studies, or the history of Jews in Arab lands. The Specialist Section is recommended to those who can read, or are learning, Arabic, and wish to have access to a chrestomathy of modern Judeo-Arabic texts.

Barmitzvah addresses

Barmitzvah addresses

Corré, Alan

At the age of thirteen, a Jewish boy becomes a "barmitzvah", obligated to observe the tenets of the Jewish Religion. Here are some barmitzvah addresses I gave. Since these were public, I include the name of the individual, but I do not include the date, in case he should not want that to be publicized. These ceremonies took place in Philadelphia, at Congregation Mikveh Israel unless otherwise indicated.

In retrospect, I suppose that my main intent was to make these young people comfortable with their heritage, and encourage them to take a positive attitude to life. The talk on Symbolic Acts is a good generic example.

Included is one Consecration ceremony for girls.

Psalms of Sefarad: A Lecture-Recital

Corré, Alan

This is a "lecture-recital" which I gave to the music students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee a while ago. I have added
English translations of the Hebrew texts that I sing which are flashed up on the screen, as well as other information. The background is a beautiful impressionist shot of the dais of
the Recital Hall where I gave the lecture by university photographer Alan Magayne-Roshak.
